Second Meeting of The ASEAN Senior Economic Officials For The Fifty Second ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (SEOM 2/52)





The Second Meeting of the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials For The Fifty Second ASEAN Economic Ministers Meeting (SEOM 2/52) officially began today, 8 June 2021, via video conferencing. The Meeting is chaired by Yang Mulia Dr Hajah May Fa’ezah binti Haji Ahmad Ariffin, Permanent Secretary (Economy) at the Ministry of Finance and Economy, Brunei Darussalam.

Attending the Meeting virtually are Senior Economic Officials from the ten ASEAN Member States (AMS) and senior officials from the ASEAN Secretariat.

The three-day meeting which will be in session until Thursday, 10th June 2021, is a follow-up to the outcomes and directions by the ASEAN Economic Ministers at the 27th AEM Retreat that was held virtually on 2 – 3 March 2021.

The Meeting among others welcomed the steady progress of the Priority Economic Deliverables (PEDs) under Brunei Darussalam’s ASEAN Chairmanship of ASEAN in 2021, where SEOM endorsed one of the PEDs which is on Non-Tariff Measures Toolkit (NTM Toolkit).

The Meeting will discuss the 2021 Annual Priorities and endorse progress reports of sectoral bodies under the SEOM’s purview. SEOM will also discuss progress of implementation of Post COVID-19 recovery efforts including initiatives under the ASEAN Comprehensive Recovery Framework (ACRF).

The Meeting will also exchange views on the way forward towards enhancing ASEAN’s economic relations with its dialogue partners including Canada, People’s Republic of China, India, Japan, Republic of Korea and the United States in preparation for the SEOM – Dialogue Partners’ Consultations that will take place on 14 – 15 June 2021.
