BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, 4 February 2021 – The ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting-Plus Working Group (ADSOM-Plus WG) was held today at the International Convention Centre, Jalan Berakas.

The meeting was chaired by Haji Adi Ihram bin Dato Paduka Haji Mahmud, Deputy Permanent Secretary (Policy and Strategy) at the Ministry of Defence in his capacity as the Brunei Darussalam’s ADSOM-Plus WG Leader.

The meeting held virtually saw defence officials of ASEAN Member States and Plus Countries namely Australia, People’s Republic of China, India, Japan, New Zealand, Republic of Korea, Russia and the United States of America discussed on the progress of the seven areas of practical cooperation under the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) Experts’ Working Group (EWG). These areas are the EWGs on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief; Maritime Security; Military Medicine; Counter-Terrorism; Peacekeeping Operations; Humanitarian Mine Action; and Cyber Security. Of the seven areas, Brunei Darussalam and Australia are the current co-chairs of the ADMM-Plus EWG on Military Medicine for the 2021-2023 cycle.

Among others, the ADSOM-Plus WG meeting serves as a prelude to the ADMM-Plus scheduled to be held in June this year. The ADMM-Plus meeting was first established in 2010 and serves as a platform for ASEAN and its eight Dialogue Partners to promote mutual trust and confidence as well as enhance regional peace, stability and security.
